As of November 2023, our practice discontinued IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and introduced an improved technology called Excel V+ by Cutera. To learn more about Excel V+ , please click here!

Below we have outlined the difference between the two technologies.

IPL

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns. IPL is best at treating hyperpigmentation, redness, and improving texture and tone. IPL can cause mild discomfort, often described as a rubber band snapping against the skin. IPL is best suited for lighter skin tones due to the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Excel V+

The Excel V+ Laser system is by Cutera feature the CoolView handpiece, designed for effective treatment of both vascular and pigmented lesions in the skin. This laser platform has three different modalities to target superficial concerns such as rosacea, sunspots, red and brows in the skin, as well as deeper vascular and pigmentation issues. Excel V+ delivers higher pulsed energy—improving efficiency and results in fewer sessions. Depending on the modality, clients report feeling a range of sensations during the Excel V+ treatment. For some, it’s a warmth or mild-heat sensation, while others may experience a rubber band snapping sensation on the skin. The intensity varies based on the treatment area, modality, and the type of lesion being treated. The built-in cooling system helps to minimize discomfort, making the experience more comfortable overall. The Excel V+ laser is designed to treat a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin. Unlike some traditional lasers that may pose a higher risk of hyperpigmentation or burns on melanin-rich skin, the Excel V+ uses dual wavelengths (532nm and 1064nm) to safely and effectively target concerns like hyperpigmentation, rosacea, veins, and overall skin rejuvenation.
